4cupcoffeemakers.org The Lattissima can make four basic coffee styles : Espresso (40ml of strong black coffee), Lungo (110ml long black coffee), Cappuccino (110ml coffee with frothy milk topping and finally Latte Macchiato (350ml layered milk, coffee, frothy milk), the latter being my favourite. Newspresso Lattissima milk jug Unlike many capsule based coffee machines the Lattissima allows you to use fresh milk to make your cappuccino. A half-litre milk container can be inserted on the left-hand platform. This is easily removed, and stored in the fridge. The container has an extendible nozzle from which frothed milk can add that final touch to your cappuccino or Latte Macchiato. Having tried other machines, I think the option to use fresh milk is a bonus for this product. The machine looks fairly simple to use - apart from a mains on-off switch to the rear all controls are to the front of the device. Be warned though - for this product you really need to read the manual before being tempted to launch into your first brew. Our review machine had the manual missing so we were in an ideal position to experiment, and the result left us a little frustrated! That's 37 cents per pod. NO, it's not perfect. The milker can (and does) burn the milk, and occasionally the pods don't line up perfectly when you drop them in. But at this price (including a 2 year warranty), it's an absolute bargain. Aldi's Milano and Reggio pods are easily as good as Nespresso's Arpeggio and Ristretto. And taste even better when you consider the price difference. If I had to choose between my Nespresso CitiZ and the Aldi Expressi, I'd take the Aldi. Better (IMHO) tasting coffee, easier to clean and empty the machine, 2 year guarantee, much cheaper running costs. It's only the overly HOT Expressi milk frother that stops it from being a perfect 10/10. I like that the basket for the coffee is nice and deep and easy to fill. The water resevoir is easily filled. It holds an ample 14 oz. of water - you get out what you put in so playing with the measurement and grind of your favorite coffee takes some perfecting. The brewer starts immediately, the light goes out signaling it is finished brewing. It is a tad faster than the mini version of the more popular single cupper. The coffee comes out hot.
